There are lots of ways to redirect a domain to an alternative domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you've created a website through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain name may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and functioning e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be necessary with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a CNAME record with our Linux cloud website hosting plans is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of simple steps. You'll find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with various opportunities - if you set up a company website on our end, for instance, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you decide to create a website by using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to create, change and delete CNAME records easily with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you will see all records for every domain or subdomain you have added in your account. To create a new record, you simply have to pick the hostname which will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type where it will be forwarded to, pick the record type, that will be CNAME in this case, and you will be all set. Even if you have never used a web hosting service before, our CP is quite intuitive to use, so you will not have any problems. We also have a short video and a detailed help article regarding how to create a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you can easily use a domain address hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for an Internet site created someplace else, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domain addresses, plus much more.
